Define your criteria for a strong social network
My life with...who? mlm-tool social media Jan. 10, 2025Your social network grows along with you. People come into your life as friends, coworkers, or chance encounters, and they can all influence how you experience the world. But who do you actually let into your life? How do you determine if a person is truly a good fit for you? We often make these choices without giving them much thought. By consciously defining your own criteria, you can strengthen your network in a purposeful way.

DOE't - Expand Your Network
Many people choose their social connections intuitively. You’re drawn to someone, perhaps because of a shared interest or a pleasant first impression. That’s fine, but it helps to take a moment every now and then to reflect on what’s truly important to you. What makes you happy in a relationship? Which people energize you? And who, on the other hand, drain your energy? The answers to those questions are the key to making conscious choices.
Go through your list and ask yourself:
- Does this person give me energy, or does he or she drain my energy?
- Can I be myself around this person?
- Is there a good balance between what I give and what I receive in this relationship?
By answering honestly, you'll gain a better understanding of the quality of your relationships.
Step 3: Determine Your Personal CriteriaÂ
Now that you have an idea of what’s important to you, you can set your own criteria. Here are a few examples to get you started:
- I'm looking for relationships where I can be myself.
- I appreciate interactions in which the other person also takes the initiative.
- It's important that I enjoy the interaction.
- I want to be able to have an open conversation without any tension.
The result: a stronger network
By setting your own criteria, you can approach existing relationships and new people you meet with greater awareness. You don't have to be rigid, but it does help to know where your boundaries lie. The point is to surround yourself with people who empower you, inspire you, and help you grow.
